Kyiv Military Administration Head Injured in Fall
Timur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration, slipped on ice and fell near the building of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA). The incident occurred as Tkachenko was attempting to walk past the city hall. He sustained a bruised arm from the fall. This event highlights the dangerous winter conditions faced by residents of the Ukrainian capital.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko addressed the situation, stating that ice forms when water freezes. Commenting on his own accident, Tkachenko pointed out that even the area near the city hall had not been cleared, which he called unacceptable.
'I nearly killed myself recently near the Kyiv City Hall. I was really lucky because I fell on my arm. It still hurts because of the bruise.' - Timur Tkachenko
Widespread Complaints Over Snow and Ice Clearance in Kyiv
Residents of Kyiv have also expressed dissatisfaction with the state of sidewalks and stairways across the city. Among the most problematic areas are:
- Stairs near the Politekhnichna stop, covered with snow and ice.
- Slippery sidewalks on Yaroslaviv Val and Bulvarno-Kudriavska streets.
- Areas near the Institute of Orthopedics and Traumatology.
These complaints underscore the urgent need to resolve snow and ice removal problems in the capital.
Tkachenko's fall serves as a stark example of a broader issue confronting Kyiv residents during winter. The failure to implement proper snow clearing and de-icing measures not only creates hazardous conditions for pedestrians but also fuels public frustration. This incident could spur city services to reassess their approaches to maintaining sidewalks and streets in winter to prevent similar accidents in the future.
