Prosecutors Indict Kyiv Woman for €15,000 Draft Evasion Scheme

Жінка з Києва постала перед судом за угоду щодо ухилення від військової служби на суму 15 000 євро.

Indictment Filed in Fake Employment Case

Prosecutors in Kyiv have sent an indictment to court concerning a local woman who arranged fraudulent employment for men at a higher education institution in the capital, with the aim of helping them evade military mobilization. For this service, she demanded a total of €15,000, of which €5,000 was her fee, with the remainder intended for a university employee who facilitated the hiring.

The woman was detained immediately after receiving the €5,000 payment. Her actions are classified under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which covers the unlawful receipt of benefits for influencing decisions made by a person authorized to perform state functions. An indictment against the university employee was already sent to court in February of this year.

Highlighting Mobilization and Corruption Challenges

This case underscores the severity of issues surrounding draft evasion and the corrupt schemes that can emerge under such circumstances. In the context of wartime, the integrity of mobilization processes and the conduct of public officials is of heightened importance, as such crimes erode trust in state institutions and can negatively impact national defense. This incident reflects broader challenges faced by Ukraine in maintaining a fair and lawful mobilization system during its ongoing conflict with Russia.
