Ukrainian Cyber Police Warn of Fake MIA Driver's License Services

Кіберполіція України закликає бути обережними щодо шахрайських пропозицій отримання водійських прав.

Alert from Ukraine's Cyber Police

Ukraine's Cyber Police have issued a warning about a surge in fraudulent social media pages impersonating official service centers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). Criminals are advertising a simplified process to obtain driver's licenses without the required training or exams, which poses a significant danger to the public. Individuals who attempt to get a license this way end up with a worthless counterfeit document or lose their money entirely.

To appear legitimate, the scammers use real photos from official MIA resources, post the working hours of genuine institutions, and even fabricate positive customer reviews. The main lure for potential victims is the promise to use 'inside contacts' to process applications and enter data into official registries. However, licenses bought online are nothing more than pieces of plastic with no legal standing; they will not appear in the government's 'Diia' app or the driver's electronic cabinet.

Risks and Official Advice

Beyond financial loss, victims risk their personal security by handing over passport details to criminals. This sensitive personal data and copies of documents can be exploited in further fraudulent schemes, such as taking out loans or hacking into accounts.

You should never share sensitive personal data with third parties online.

The only legal way to obtain a driver's license is to complete the required theoretical and practical training, followed by passing official exams at an MIA service center. The document is always issued in person, and no legitimate online sales services exist. Citizens are urged to exercise extreme caution and to report any suspicious pages to the Cyber Police immediately via the form on their official website, rather than transferring any money. This type of scam is a global issue, but it exploits specific digital government services familiar to Ukrainians.

This situation underscores the critical need for vigilance online, especially concerning personal data and financial transactions. The public must remember that obtaining a driver's license is a strictly regulated process, and all related matters should be handled exclusively through official channels. As fraud schemes grow increasingly sophisticated, public awareness of the risks associated with fake online offers is more important than ever.
