Ukraine's Cyber Police Department Marks 11 Years Since Founding

On October 11, Ukraine's Cyber Police Department celebrated its 11th anniversary. At the event, Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivskyi praised the unit's work, highlighting its critical role in addressing modern security challenges. The ceremony also included National Bank of Ukraine Governor Andriy Pyshny and representatives from other law enforcement agencies under the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Vyhivskyi noted that cooperation with the NBU led to the freezing of accounts tied to criminal networks and prevented tens of millions of hryvnias in illicit financial transactions. The minister emphasized that

"countering cyberattacks, cyber fraud, and disinformation under martial law is a key priority for law enforcement in protecting Ukraine's national security"
, according to Vyhivskyi.

Department's Primary Areas of Operation

The effectiveness of these efforts, Vyhivskyi explained, largely depends on close coordination among state bodies, law enforcement agencies, international partners, businesses, and civil society.

  • Countering cyberattacks
  • Combating cyber fraud
  • Fighting disinformation

Collaboration across these sectors—government, law enforcement, international allies, private industry, and the public—is essential for maintaining cybersecurity. The anniversary serves as a reminder of the challenges Ukraine faces amid an ongoing information war. As cyber threats continue to evolve, cooperation between public institutions and the private sector grows ever more important. The successes in blocking criminal schemes and preventing financial crimes underscore the need for a comprehensive cybersecurity strategy that involves all parts of society.

As Ukraine's Cyber Police intensify their efforts to combat cybercrime, recent developments highlight the government's proactive stance. The establishment of a new task force aimed at tackling organized cybercriminal networks further underscores the importance of collaborative approaches in ensuring national security. This initiative aligns with the ongoing commitment to safeguard the nation from evolving cyber threats.
