Kyiv without heating: 400 apartment buildings remain without heating after the attack

Київ потерпає від холоду: 400 житлових будинків залишилися без тепла після обстрілу.

The situation in Kyiv's energy sector

Kyiv is facing the most difficult situation in energy and utility services in four years of war. After a massive attack that took place on January 9, emergency shutdowns continue, and hundreds of homes remain without heating. As of January 14, about 400 apartment buildings in the capital remain without heating, due to shelling that caused severe disruptions in the system.

After the January 9 attack, 6000 apartment buildings found themselves without heat. The situation has also been complicated by a shortage of electricity observed in Kyiv following the shelling on January 13. At the moment, about 500 apartment buildings continue to remain without heat, despite the efforts of utility services.

‘The situation in the city is very complicated and a problem of this scale has not been observed in four years of full-scale war’

- Vitaliy Klitschko, Mayor of Kyiv

Klitschko also reported that heating is planned to be provided to some buildings by the evening of January 14. He emphasized that the situation on the right bank of the city is already more stable, while the left bank remains complicated. However, the mayor warned that emergency shutdowns will continue, and it is important for residents to understand the real state of affairs.

Vulnerability of infrastructure

The situation in Kyiv highlights the vulnerability of infrastructure during wartime and the importance of stable energy supply for ensuring comfortable living conditions for residents. In the context of ongoing attacks, utility services are facing enormous challenges in restoring heating, which can negatively affect social stability and public health. The further development of events will depend on the security situation in the region and the efforts of the authorities to restore critically important infrastructure objects.
