Celebrating Three Decades of Ukraine’s Constitution: A Full Schedule of Events
To mark the 30th anniversary of Ukraine’s Constitution, Kyiv has organized a diverse program blending in-person and online activities, adapted to the realities of martial law. Official commemorations kick off on June 28 with a flower-laying ceremony at the monument to Pylyp Orlyk, followed by a series of engaging events across the capital.
What’s on the Agenda
- From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, a large LED screen outside the Kyiv City Council building will broadcast photo and video materials.
- The State Archives of Kyiv will showcase a documentary exhibition dedicated to Constitution Day.
- City libraries will host book displays.
- At the National Historical and Architectural Museum 'Kyiv Fortress,' visitors can explore the exhibition 'The Constitution of Ukraine – a Guardian of Statehood.'
- The Museum of Books and Printing of Ukraine will feature a themed exhibition for Constitution Day.
Educational and youth initiatives include a themed week at the Kyiv Palace of Children and Youth titled 'I Have the Right to Be Ukrainian! 30 Years of the Constitution of Ukraine.' Additional highlights are the opening of the project exhibition 'The Constitution Through Children’s Eyes' and the launch of the educational initiative 'The Fourth Generation of Human Rights and Freedoms.' Everyone is invited to take part in an online quiz called 'I Know the Constitution of Ukraine.'
City tours form a key part of the celebrations. Planned bus tours include 'Kyiv: Through the Ages and Legends' and 'Kyiv: Chronicles and Modernity.' Walking tours will cover topics such as 'From the Charter of Liberties to the Fundamental Law,' 'The Constitution: From Creation to Today,' and 'The Millennial Journey of the Constitution.'
Other festivities feature a gala concert for the Seventh International In-Person and Remote Two-Round Artistic Children’s, Youth, and Adult Festival-Competition 'Formidable' at the Spivoche Pole complex. In the Holosiivskyi district, a track-and-field run titled 'Ukraine – My Native Country' is scheduled, while the Darnytskyi district will host a celebratory concert and a charity performance by the 'Souvenir' orchestra. The Sviatoshyn Culture Center will also hold ceremonial events for the Constitution’s 30th anniversary.
From June 26 to 28, the Kyiv City State Administration’s Tourism and Promotion Department, in partnership with the Kyiv Center for Tourism Development, will offer 11 free city tours. These excursions provide an excellent opportunity for both residents and visitors to deepen their understanding of Ukraine’s Constitution and its historical significance.
The 30th anniversary celebration aims not only to commemorate a pivotal milestone in Ukraine’s statehood but also to bolster national unity and consciousness amid wartime. By engaging diverse segments of the population, the program seeks to raise awareness of the rights and freedoms enshrined in the nation’s founding document, reinforcing social cohesion during these challenging times.
In addition to the rich array of events planned in Kyiv, historic steam trains will also be operating to celebrate Constitution Day, offering a unique experience for both locals and visitors. This initiative by Ukrzaliznytsia adds a nostalgic touch to the festivities, inviting everyone to engage with Ukraine's heritage while commemorating this significant milestone.
