Kyiv's Cultural Highlights for the Week of February 9-15

From February 9 to 15, Ukraine's capital will host a diverse array of cultural events, including art exhibitions, theater premieres, concerts, and stand-up comedy shows. This week promises to be a vibrant one for all art and culture enthusiasts, offering a rich program across the city's venues.

Exhibitions

An exhibition titled 'Face to Face with Wilhelm Kotarbiński' opened on February 7 at the National Museum 'Kyiv Art Gallery,' located at 9 Tereshchenkivska Street. Wilhelm Kotarbiński (1848–1921) was a Polish-Ukrainian painter who lived and worked in Kyiv for over thirty years. The exhibition features seven of his works, including:

  • 'Victim of the Nile'
  • The panel 'Woman with Doves'
  • 'Woman with a Jug'
  • 'Morning Song'

Running concurrently is the exhibition 'Where is Thy Sting, O Death!,' which will be on display from February 6 to March 29 at the Museum of Book and Printing of Ukraine at 9 Lavrska Street. This exhibition is curated by Roman Selivachov. Another exhibition, 'Nina Tobilevych. Behind the Scenes of Life and Stage,' continues until February 22 at the Museum of Outstanding Figures of Ukrainian Culture, located at 93-97 Saksahanskoho Street.

Theater Events

Theater lovers will also find plenty to enjoy. The play 'I See You Are Interested in Darkness,' based on the novel by Illarion Pavliuk, will be performed from February 9 to 12 at 6:00 PM at the MTSKM. The dramatist is Oleksii Dorychevsky, and the director is Maksym Holenko. Another production, 'The Ice Rink,' is scheduled for February 10 at 6:00 PM at the 'Golden Gate' Theater at 7A Shovkovychna Street, featuring Vitalina Bibliv, Yurii Kulynych, Khrystia Liuba, and others. Additionally, on February 13 at 6:00 PM, the House of Officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will host the play 'Star Passions,' based on Michael Frayn's 'Noises Off,' with a cast including Aram Arzumanian, Valentyn Tomusiak, Vira Kobzar, and other actors.

Concerts and Stand-Up Shows

Beyond theater, Kyiv will host several concerts. An acoustic performance by Zhenia Halych will take place on February 12 at 7:00 PM at Caribbean Club, 4 Symona Petliury Street. The following day, February 13, Otoy will perform at 7:00 PM at Atlas, and on February 15 at 7:00 PM, also at Atlas, Tayanna will take the stage.

For comedy fans, several stand-up events are planned. The stand-up show 'Biography,' with special guest Taras Tsymbaliuk, will be held on February 9 at 7:00 PM at the Pidval Kultury venue at 30a Honchara Street. The show will feature Slavik Martyniuk, Vasya Kharizma, Dima Nosov, and Ivan Kazarkin. On February 15 at 7:30 PM, the 3B Cafe at 23 Khoryva Street will host the stand-up show 'Not Necessarily in Love,' featuring Anuar Ayad, Sasha Shpek, Arsen Puchkov, Magamed Muradov, and Hanna Kochegura.

This week in Kyiv is a significant one for the city's cultural development, as it combines diverse art forms, from visual to theatrical and musical. The exhibitions at local museums offer a chance to deepen one's understanding of Ukrainian and Polish art, while the theater premieres and concerts provide an opportunity to enjoy live performance and drama.
