Power Restoration in Kyiv and the Region
The power supply has been restored for all consumers in Kyiv. Recovery efforts by energy workers are ongoing, transitioning to planned hourly schedules. As of the evening, about 60 thousand consumers remain without power supply.
Overall, power supply has been restored for 648 thousand subscribers in the capital. In the Kyiv region, electricity has returned for 313 thousand families. However, the situation remains difficult, as 53 thousand subscribers are without power in Dnipropetrovsk. Due to bad weather, a total of 366 settlements were left without electricity.
Challenges in the Energy System
A combined strike by the Russian Federation on critical infrastructure occurred on the night of January 9. The situation continues to be most challenging in the frontline and border regions with Russia. As Mykola Kolosnyk noted,
“system balancing is ensured through domestic generation, electricity imports, and forced consumption limitations.”
The operation of the energy system has been significantly affected by bad weather, which complicated recovery efforts. Severe weather conditions, such as freezing rain, wet snow, black ice, and strong gusts of wind, caused many problems in the energy system. The Kyiv and Chernihiv regions suffered the most, where restoring power supply requires time and effort from energy workers.
Work on restoring electricity supply is currently ongoing, and with hope for improved weather conditions, the situation may improve soon.
The restoration of power supply in Kyiv and the region is an important step in overcoming the consequences of bad weather and attacks on critical infrastructure. Despite the fact that most consumers have already received electricity, problems in other regions, particularly in Dnipropetrovsk, highlight the need to continue efforts for recovery. Deteriorating weather conditions complicate the situation, so energy workers are working on stabilizing the system and ensuring normal functioning of power supply in all regions of Ukraine.
