Electric Trams and Trolleybuses Return to Kyiv's Left Bank

Відновлення електричного транспорту на лівому березі Києва: трамваї та тролейбуси повертаються в місто.

Electric Transport Service Resumes on Kyiv's Left Bank

Kyiv's municipal transport company, 'Kyivpastrans', has announced the restoration of electric public transport services on the city's left bank and on cross-river routes, effective March 3. This decision was made possible by improvements in the energy system's stability. This development follows the partial resumption of electric transport on the right bank, which began on February 25. The return of trams and trolleybuses is a significant step toward normalcy for a city whose infrastructure has faced severe challenges.

Electric transport on the left bank was initially suspended following a large-scale attack on January 9. During this suspension period, bus services were deployed to cover the affected routes. The current restoration of electric transport is being implemented in coordination with energy providers and is contingent on the technical capacity of the power grid.

Specific Routes Returning to Service

From March 3, the following routes will partially resume operations:

  • Tram lines: 4, 5, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 32, 33, 35;
  • Trolleybus lines: 29, 30, 31, 37 (with modifications), 43, 47, 50, 50-K.

Backup bus services will remain in place on these lines initially to ensure passenger comfort during the transition.

Provided there is no new damage to energy infrastructure, electric transport on the left bank is scheduled to operate on its standard timetable and with its full planned fleet starting March 4. On that date, the temporary replacement bus services will be canceled.

"Any further adjustments to public transport schedules will be announced separately," noted the Department of Transport Infrastructure of the Kyiv City State Administration.

Restoring electric transport is crucial for improving mobility and providing more comfortable travel conditions for residents who rely on these services. A gradual return to the normal schedule will help reduce the strain on the bus network, which had been covering the suspended routes. The situation with the power supply remains under close monitoring, and future transport schedules will depend on the continued stability of the electrical grid.
