Pre-Trial Investigation Concludes in Child Abuse Case
Police investigators in Kyiv's Desnianskyi district have finalized their pre-trial inquiry into a 36-year-old woman accused of systematically abusing her 9-year-old son. The indictment has been sent to court, where she faces charges under two articles of Ukraine's Criminal Code: domestic violence and torture. The abuse was uncovered by schoolteachers who noticed the boy's injured arm and alerted police and social services.
"Teachers at the school saw the boy's injured arm and reported it to the police and social services, who removed the minor from the family,"stated the Kyiv police communications department. The child has been placed in a temporary foster home with a large family, where he is receiving necessary support, and his life and health are no longer at risk.
It was noted that the boy had previously complained to police officers on the street about his mother's violence. This information was passed to the relevant child protection service, but no proper action was taken.
