3G Network Shutdown in Four Regions of Ukraine
Beginning June 16, Kyivstar will gradually phase out 3G services across four Ukrainian regions. The move is designed to reallocate radio frequencies to strengthen the 4G network. The affected areas are Chernihiv, Lviv, Cherkasy, and Zhytomyr Oblasts.
Regional Breakdown of the Shutdown
- Chernihiv Oblast: Chernihiv and Pryluky districts.
- Lviv Oblast: Stryi, Zolochiv, Sambir, Drohobych, Sheptytskyi, and Yavoriv districts, as well as the cities of Zolochiv, Yavoriv, and Mykolaiv.
- Cherkasy Oblast: Cherkasy district, Kaniv, Zolotonosha, and Horodyshche.
- Zhytomyr Oblast: Zviahel and Berdychiv districts.
The modernization process will begin shortly after midnight on June 16. To access the upgraded network, users must enable 4G or LTE mode on their devices. Android users should select LTE/4G in the network type settings, while iPhone owners need to turn on Cellular Data. Additionally, the SIM card must support VoLTE technology. Outdated SIM cards can be exchanged free of charge at any official Kyivstar store. If the network does not appear after adjusting settings, it is recommended to restart the device or activate airplane mode.
Shutting down 3G networks in Ukraine is part of a broader strategy by mobile operators to upgrade infrastructure and transition to faster communication technologies.
This shift is expected to improve service quality, but users must prepare by adapting their devices for the new conditions. Timely activation of 4G and replacement of old SIM cards will be essential steps to maintain uninterrupted connectivity.
