Kyivstar Revises Prepaid Number Policy: Key Changes Effective February 6

Зміни в умовах використання передплачених номерів у Київстар: новий підхід з 6 лютого.

Kyivstar Updates Validity Rules for Prepaid Numbers

Mobile operator Kyivstar is implementing new rules for the validity period of prepaid subscriber numbers, effective February 6. While the total period before a number is fully cancelled remains 365 days, this timeframe will now be split into two distinct phases:

  • The first phase consists of 274 days of full service, starting from the date of the last top-up or service payment.
  • The second phase is a 91-day suspended state.

To reactivate a number from the suspended state, subscribers must make a single payment of at least 30 hryvnias to their account. It is important to note that services like 'Extra Money' or transferring funds from another number are not considered valid top-ups and will not extend the number's validity. For long-term plans paid annually or semi-annually, the number's validity will be automatically renewed upon package renewal. These changes bring Kyivstar's policy more in line with common international prepaid practices.

Notifications and Options During the Suspended State

Kyivstar representatives stated that during the suspended state, subscribers will receive SMS reminders about the need to top up their account to avoid number deactivation. While suspended, users can still add funds to their account and make calls to service numbers. The standard methods for extending a SIM card's validity period include:

  • Making a top-up of at least 30 hryvnias.
  • Paying for a monthly or 4-week service package.
  • Paying for a daily service package.

The revised validity rules may impact users accustomed to the traditional system for tracking a number's active status. Dividing the validity period into two stages is designed to give subscribers better control over their spending, as the suspended state provides a buffer period with reminders before final cancellation. This change could significantly reduce the risk of losing a phone number for customers who use their mobile service infrequently.
