Forecasters Warn of Icy Conditions and a Cold Snap for Late January
Vitaliy Pistryan, head of the Cherkasy Regional Center for Hydrometeorology, has provided a forecast indicating significant weather changes for Ukraine at the end of January. Following a brief warm spell, the country will be hit by a cold wave driven by active cyclones moving from the south. This pattern is a typical winter hazard for the region, often disrupting travel and daily life.
The period from January 28 to 30 will see a deterioration in weather conditions. Precipitation in various forms, fog, and icy glaze on roads are expected. While Atlantic air masses currently dominate, displacing Arctic cold, the expert notes that significant frosts are anticipated by month's end. Freezing rain has already been recorded in some European countries, and this phenomenon could also affect Ukraine.
Impact of Weather Changes on Daily Life
According to data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, active southern cyclones will enter Ukraine in late January, bringing daily precipitation and affecting the existing snow cover. Vitaliy Pistryan emphasized that a new period of cold could begin from Friday, January 30, stating that winter is not over and the most challenging meteorological period is still ongoing.
The weather changes are expected to significantly impact transportation infrastructure and daily life. Icing and dropping temperatures may complicate road travel and create hazardous conditions for pedestrians. Caution is urged, especially during journeys and movement within cities. The worsening conditions could also affect the agricultural sector, as precipitation and frosts may impact crop yields. It is important to monitor updates and recommendations from local authorities.
