Antigoni Buxton to Represent Cyprus at Eurovision 2026

Cyprus has become the first country to announce its act for the Eurovision Song Contest 2026. The nation will be represented by 30-year-old British-Cypriot singer Antigoni Buxton, who premiered her song and music video titled 'Jalla' on February 8th. This track is the first officially confirmed entry for the 2026 competition.

'Jalla', which translates to 'More' in the Cypriot dialect, was unveiled during a news broadcast on the RIK1 channel. The video was produced by the studio Bodega Visuals in Cyprus and features cameo appearances from Antigoni's grandparents. The singer stated she aimed to create something that captures the Cypriot spirit while sounding contemporary for an international audience. According to her, 'Jalla' is about energy, passion, and striving for more in life.

Upcoming Debut and Cultural Significance

The song's first live performance is scheduled for February 13th in Athens, where Antigoni will be a special guest during the second semi-final of the Greek national selection show, 'Sing For Greece'. The singer is a graduate of the prestigious Brit School and a former contestant on the reality TV series 'Love Island'. She is also the daughter of television presenter and culinary expert Toni Buxton.

This early announcement is a significant moment for Cyprus in the Eurovision season, a contest watched by millions globally. The selection of an artist with strong ties to both British and Cypriot cultures could be a strategic move to promote Cypriot music on the world stage. It is hoped that 'Jalla' will draw attention to the island's cultural heritage and become a successful addition to the contest's history.
