China calls for de-escalation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine
During a meeting of the UN Security Council on July 31, China's deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Gen Shuan, stated that China sees certain progress in humanitarian issues between Russia and Ukraine, particularly in prisoner exchanges, but warned about a dangerous escalation on the battlefield that threatens to prolong the war further.
'Weapons can win a war, but they cannot ensure sustainable peace',emphasized Gen Shuan, calling for de-escalation, continued dialogue, and the conclusion of a comprehensive peace agreement. China stresses that excessive arms supplies only deepen the conflict, increase the risks of its spread, and bring new suffering to both the populations of Ukraine and Russia, as well as to the entire region.
Condemnation of the uncontrolled flow of arms into the conflict zone
The Chinese diplomat expressed concern over the large-scale and uncontrolled influx of weapons into the combat zone. According to him, the increasingly large arsenal used on the front lines possesses higher lethality and destructive power. He particularly noted information regarding the use of combat robots, which, in Beijing's opinion, indicates that the war is turning into an experimental platform for testing new weaponry.
In conclusion, the representative of the PRC urged the United States to refrain from shifting responsibility and moving to accusations, and instead join real efforts to cease hostilities and support the negotiation process.
During the UN Security Council meeting, the Chinese representative expressed deep concern over the situation in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, calling for an end to escalation on the battlefield and the start of constructive negotiations to achieve sustainable peace.
