Kyiv Mayor's Address to the President

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko addressed President Volodymyr Zelensky in response to his critical comments regarding the city's preparation for a possible energy collapse. Klitschko noted that Kyiv is actively implementing measures to connect critical facilities to generators, as well as operating heating points for the city's residents. Additionally, social workers are providing assistance to elderly people in need of support.

The criticism from President Zelensky, who stated that 'very little' has been done in Kyiv to prevent the energy crisis, prompted Klitschko's response. The mayor questioned the president's words, asking:

“What 'intensity' in Kyiv's response to the emergency does the president not see, particularly in recent days, as he mentioned?”
Vitalii Klitschko also emphasized that he has not met with the president in person in the last four years.

Energy Situation in Kyiv

It is reminded that on January 9, 2023, Kyiv experienced a massive attack that led to emergency power outages. The next shelling on January 13 caused an increase in the electricity deficit in the city. In response to these challenges, over 9,000 residents of the capital used the services of mobile resilience points provided by the State Emergency Service.

This public dispute between the mayor of Kyiv and the president of Ukraine highlights the tense situation in the country, especially regarding energy security. In the face of constant threats from the aggressor, it is crucial for local authorities and the central government to work in unison to ensure safety and comfort for the population. Given the recent attacks, the question of the effectiveness of actions taken to prepare for possible crises becomes extraordinarily relevant.
