Ukrainian science has already identified the consequences of global climate change for the country. It has been noted that extreme precipitation in the south and prolonged droughts in the east are becoming more frequent and severe. Even in cities like Kyiv and Odesa, these changes are already noticeable, as emphasized by senior scientist of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center and the National Antarctic Center, Anastasia Chyhareva.
“Adverse phenomena will only increase. The atmosphere is heating up, humidity is rising, the ocean is warming – all of this interacts and leads to the intensification of meteorological phenomena,” explains the scientist.
According to the Hydrometeorological Center, on September 30, 2025, 94 mm of rain fell in Odesa, which is 224% of the monthly norm. This indicates an increase in the intensity of precipitation in the region. At the same time, prolonged droughts continue in eastern Ukraine, and dust storms and hail are becoming more frequent.
Global climate change already has concrete consequences for Ukraine, as evidenced by intense precipitation and prolonged droughts. Scientists warn that these phenomena will only intensify in the future due to rising temperatures and humidity in the atmosphere.
