From April 2026, some Ukrainians may have their disability pension payments stopped. This mainly concerns those who have not confirmed their status within the established timeframe. Payments are automatically halted after the expiration of the pension's designation period if the person has not undergone a repeat medical examination. This is reported by "Znaj.ua".

Stopping pension payments from April 2026: main reasons

The Pension Fund of Ukraine explains that the disability pension has a defined duration. After it expires, a repeat medical examination is required; otherwise, the payments are stopped.

Key grounds for stopping payments include:

The agency also notes that the approaches to assessing health status have been updated with the participation of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.

Who may have their pensions stopped in Ukraine: who this concerns

The new rules will primarily affect certain categories of citizens who have not met the requirements for status confirmation.

In particular, these are:

  • men aged 25 to 60

  • people with II and III groups of disability

  • those who were to undergo a repeat examination in 2022–2024 but did not do so.

At the same time, there are categories for which payments will not be stopped:

  • people with permanent disability

  • citizens whose status has already been established under the new rules

  • military personnel

  • civil defense representatives.

Certain exceptions are provided for people who are in temporarily occupied territories or reside in combat zones.

Recall that in the event of stopping payments, pensions can be restored. To do this, one must undergo a repeat medical examination or confirm identity through physical identification. After document verification, payments are resumed.
