The symphonic concert conducted by Russian conductor Valery Gergiev, scheduled for July 27 in Caserta, Italy, has been Cancelled. This was reported by 'Glavkom' referring to Ansa.
The cancellation of Gergiev's concert was demanded by the Anti-Corruption Foundation with the support of local activists and politicians. The performance was called for cancellation as the conductor was a trusted associate of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, 'signed letters in support of the annexation of Crimea' and did not speak out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the time of publication, more than 19,000 people had signed the petition to cancel the concert.
It was planned that Gergiev's performance would take place on July 27 as part of the Un'Estate da RE festival at the Royal Palace in the city of Caserta in the Campania region. Earlier, the general director of the Metropolitan Opera, Peter Gelb, called for the cancellation of this performance and described it as part of Putin's propaganda.
Ukrainian activists and politicians are fighting for the cancellation of concerts by artists who support Russian aggression and the occupation of territories. A significant step in this direction was the Cancelled performance of Valery Gergiev in Italy due to his open support for Putin and Russian actions in Ukraine and the occupied Crimea.
