Ukrainian drivers have been reminded: ignoring fines for traffic violations can end in property arrest or even confiscation of the car. This is reported by “Your CAR”.

«If the fine is not paid within a 15-day period, the decision is transferred to the enforcement service. And then a completely different story begins – with arrests and forced collection», — explains lawyer Oleksandr Hryn.

After that, a state or private executor has the right to block the debtor's bank accounts. Money may be automatically debited — without any warning. If there are not enough funds in the accounts, movable or immovable property, including the car, is seized.

What sanctions are applied to fine debtors

Lawyers emphasize that the consequences of not paying the fine can be serious:

  • arrest of bank accounts and automatic debiting of funds;

  • blocking or seizing the car;

  • seizure of other property — apartments, electronics, land plots;

  • addition to the debtors' database and prohibition on leaving the country.

According to Oleksandr Hryn, there are cases in practice where due to a fine of 510 hryvnias, people had their cards blocked, and the amount of debt increased threefold due to enforcement fees and additional charges.

How to avoid problems

Experts advise to regularly check their fines — this can be done through the Ministry of Internal Affairs portal, the “Dii” application, or online banking. If the decision was made automatically, it can be paid with a 50% discount within the first 10 days.

If a driver believes the fine is unlawful, they should immediately contact the court — the time limit for appeal is also 10 days.
