Outcomes of the Structural Overhaul
Oleksandr Syrskyi, Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces, has reported that the ongoing corps-level reform is already yielding results, including increased Russian casualties and a transformed Ukrainian force structure. The newly established corps have achieved their initial operational capabilities, and the second phase of this reorganization is now underway. This restructuring is a critical component of Ukraine's long-term defense strategy against the ongoing Russian invasion.
Focus of the Second Phase
The current phase involves reassigning brigades to corps commands to enhance military organization. In specific corps, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) battalions are being expanded into full regiments to boost their operational effectiveness. Furthermore, the formation of artillery brigades within the corps has been completed, marking a significant step in strengthening Ukraine's combat power.
This restructuring has involved the redeployment of over 36,000 service members. Oleksandr Syrskyi noted that
“the shift to a corps system has alleviated the burden on the command structure and significantly improved troop manageability.”He also emphasized that
“the technological component is being enhanced, particularly through the use of ground-based unmanned systems for logistics and casualty evacuation, which reduces the strain on personnel and, consequently, our losses.”
This reform is part of a broader strategy to modernize the Ukrainian military by integrating new technologies and refining organizational frameworks. Improving command efficiency and combat capabilities is crucial for operational success in the current conflict. Such systemic changes are also vital for sustaining troop morale and readiness in a protracted war of attrition.
