Survey Reveals One in Four Ukrainians Plans a Career Change by 2026

Опитування показало, що кожен четвертий українець розглядає можливість зміни професії до 2026 року.

Key Findings from the OLX Job Survey

An OLX Job survey of 892 respondents across Ukraine indicates a significant workforce shift is on the horizon. Twenty-six percent of Ukrainians plan to change professions by 2026, with another 60% open to the possibility. Beyond salary, the most critical factors in job selection are a positive team atmosphere, work-life balance, and flexible scheduling.

The survey revealed that the most desired salary range remains 20,000–30,000 UAH, cited by 34% of respondents. Twenty-nine percent target 10,000–20,000 UAH, 20% aim for 30,000–50,000 UAH, and 11% seek over 50,000 UAH. For 55% of those surveyed, good workplace relationships and supportive management are the top priority. Nearly half (48%) emphasize work-life balance, while 44% value flexible or hybrid work arrangements.

Motivations Behind Career Shifts

The primary driver for change is the desire for higher pay, noted by 72% of participants. Other key motivations include:

  • War-related displacement or layoffs (31%)
  • Interest in a new industry (28%)
  • Professional burnout (25%)
  • Relocation or changed life circumstances (20%)

Ukraine's labor market is experiencing a sharp increase in demand for skilled tradespeople, with certified welders and metalworkers now among the most sought-after specialists. Salaries in these fields continue to rise steadily.

This data reflects a workforce actively seeking new opportunities, influenced by a complex mix of economic and personal factors. The findings suggest Ukrainian workers are becoming more selective about their employment conditions, a trend likely accelerated by the ongoing war and economic adaptation. The growing need for skilled trades also highlights specific sectors with strong hiring potential, which could benefit the national economy. Given these dynamics, further evolution of Ukraine's job market is expected in the coming years as professional reorientation becomes increasingly common.
