Geneva Negotiations
The Kremlin has formally confirmed its intention to discuss the status of occupied territories during negotiations scheduled for February 17-18 in Geneva. The Russian delegation participating in these talks will include representatives such as:
- Vladimir Medinsky
- Mikhail Galuzin
- Igor Kostyukov
- Kirill Dmitriev
According to Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov, the talks are planned to cover a broader range of issues, including those related to territories and other demands held by Russia.
“This time, the intention is to discuss a wider spectrum of issues, including, in fact, the main questions which concern territories and everything else,”Peskov noted. He also emphasized the importance of the presence of the chief negotiator, Vladimir Medinsky, during these meetings. These talks represent a continuation of diplomatic efforts that have been ongoing since Russia's 2014 annexation of Crimea.
Ukraine's Participation
It is worth noting that the Ukrainian delegation has already departed for Geneva to participate in the negotiations. This indicates Ukraine's active involvement in the process of discussing critical issues affecting regional security and bilateral relations.
The planned Geneva talks constitute a significant stage in diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine. The participation of both sides may signal a readiness for dialogue; however, the outcomes of these negotiations remain uncertain, given the complexity of the issues to be discussed. It is important to monitor further developments, as they could substantially impact regional security and international relations.
