Kremlin Spokesman's Statement

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has responded to a Bloomberg report concerning the potential restoration of cooperation between Russia and the United States. In his remarks, he referenced joint energy projects and the possibility of resuming dollar-denominated transactions. The published proposals from Moscow include the creation of joint ventures focused on oil and liquefied natural gas extraction, particularly in the Arctic region.

Peskov also spoke about offering favorable conditions for American businesses seeking to re-enter the Russian market. He stated that Russia is open to cooperation, emphasizing the potential mutual interest for companies in both nations.

'It is clear we are proposing cooperation. It is clear that companies in both countries are potentially interested in this. Here you have joint ventures. It is clear there are American companies that want to return to the Russian market,' said Dmitry Peskov.

Regarding currency policy, Peskov asserted that Russia did not voluntarily abandon the U.S. dollar. He noted that the shift to alternative payment methods was a consequence of U.S.-led sanctions. 'These countries, naturally, use alternative payments. If the U.S. abandons this practice of restricting dollar use, then the dollar will have to compete with other alternative currencies,' Peskov added.

Peskov's comments signal Russia's attempt to rebuild economic links with the United States despite ongoing political and economic tensions. This comes as Russia seeks to navigate its economic isolation following its invasion of Ukraine. A renewal of cooperation between these two major economies could significantly impact global energy markets and currency dynamics. The proposals for joint ventures in the energy sector may indicate Russia's desire to attract foreign investment and technology, which are crucial for its long-term economic development.
