Critical damages to the energy system: network recovery will take months
Critical damages to generation and high-voltage networks have been recorded in the Ukrainian energy system as a result of attacks, leading to power shortages and electricity transmission issues. Oleksandr Kharchenko, director of the Energy Research Center, noted that the first stage of high-voltage network recovery is currently underway and will take from 10 to 12 weeks.
Currently, network damages make it impossible to transmit electricity to the Left Bank. Oleksandr Kharchenko emphasized that protective structures have not shown their effectiveness everywhere. According to him, it is easier to list what works than what does not, indicating the seriousness of the situation in the energy system.
Challenges of the energy system
Restoring electricity generation will require time — months, not weeks. The Ukrainian energy system is currently facing significant challenges that demand a comprehensive approach to restoring and modernizing infrastructure.
This situation highlights the vulnerability of Ukraine's energy infrastructure in the context of escalating conflict. Prolonged power outages can have serious consequences not only for industry but also for residential consumers. Restoring the energy system is a priority task for ensuring the stability of the country amid modern challenges.
