Kupiansk Nearly Liberated: Less Than a Hundred Russian Occupants Encircled

The final phase of the operation to clear Kupiansk of Russian occupants is underway. According to the latest data, less than a hundred Russians remain in the city, completely encircled. The operation to clear Kupiansk began in the fall, and the Ukrainian Defense Forces have achieved significant success in the Kharkiv region, driving the enemy out of most of the city.

According to intercepted communications, there may be around 30 Russian soldiers in Kupiansk. Russian commanders have been tasked with capturing Kupiansk by February 2026; however, according to military expert Viktor Tregubov,

“The Russian troops have found themselves completely encircled and are facing serious supply issues”
, highlighting the complexity of the situation for the Russian military trying to hold their positions.

In addition, Ukrainian troops, particularly the mortarmen of the 151st separate reconnaissance and assault battalion, captured a Russian soldier.

“This is the final phase of the city’s clearance,”
noted Tregubov, indicating the approach of the operation’s conclusion.
