Since April 28, the sale of metro tickets through cash desks has been fully suspended in Kyiv. The last three points were closed at key stations, and passengers were offered alternative payment methods. This is reported by “The Village Ukraine”.
Kyiv metro cash desks closed: where to buy a ticket now
The changes affected the stations «Vokzalna», «Pochayna» and «Vydubychi», where the last cash desks operated. From now on, rides can only be purchased through digital or automated services.
The main payment options:
-
the “Kyiv Digital” application
-
bank card at the turnstile
-
Apple Pay or Google Pay
-
self-service terminals
For those who use cash, there remains the option to recharge through special terminals «Kyiv Digital», which are installed at the stations.
Paying for travel in the metro: how the terminals work
The terminals allow you to purchase a single ride or top up a transport card with cash. They are located in the lobbies and actually replaced traditional cash desks.
At the same time, technical work is ongoing in the metro. In particular, at the «Shulyavska» station, three lower incline escalators have been under repair since March 20. The work is expected to continue until December 2026. Key elements of the mechanism, including stairs, handrails, and drive units, are being completely replaced during the upgrade.
The transition to a cashless model in the metro is part of the digitization of urban transport, which has been implemented in Kyiv in recent years.
We remind you that the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko has instructed the relevant departments to prepare an economic justification for revising metro tariffs.
