Public figure and legendary Czech hockey goalkeeper Dominik Hasek expressed his disdain for the statements made by representatives of the Hungarian government regarding the arson of a church in Transcarpathia. He believes that such tactics are unacceptable, especially given the uncertainty about who and why committed this act of violence.
«It seems that Hungary is adopting Russian tactics in Ukraine, which has been practiced for many years, even before the military invasion. Discrediting a country in mortal danger in this way (when it is unclear who and why set the church on fire) is unacceptable»
Dominik Hasek also opposes the participation of athletes from Russia and Belarus in international competitions due to the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine. He expressed concern about the situation in Transcarpathia following the church arson.
Reaction of Hungary and demands to Ukraine
The Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orban, commented on the incident in Palada-Komata, promising a reaction from Hungary. He also demands that the European Union impose sanctions against Ukraine for what he calls «violations of human rights».
Hungary has sent a letter to the family of the deceased Joseph Shebeshteni from Transcarpathia, considering his death a result of beating by the military enlistment officials. The politician also made a number of aggressive statements denying Ukraine's accession to the EU and NATO.
Dominik Hasek condemned the statements made by Hungarian authorities regarding the arson of the church in Transcarpathia, highlighting the unacceptability of such tactics amid the country's difficult political circumstances. The Prime Minister of Hungary, in turn, continues to insist on imposing sanctions against Ukraine, maintaining a firm approach in relations between the two countries.
