From November 1, "winter" traffic rules have returned to Kyiv and Dnipro. The maximum allowable speed on several city highways has been reduced to 50 km/h instead of the summer 70-80 km/h. The changes have come into effect automatically, and speed cameras are already operating under the updated parameters. Auto24 reports on this writes.

Where the speed has been reduced in Kyiv

The decision of the Kyiv City Council provides for a return to the standard speed of 50 km/h on routes that traditionally had a summer limit of 80 km/h. The restrictions have returned on four popular city directions:

  • Naberezhne Shose – from Poshova Square to the Nadnipryansky Shose

  • Roman Shukhevych Avenue – from the Northern Bridge to Honore de Balzac Street

  • Stepan Bandera Avenue – from Jordan Street to the Northern Bridge

  • Naberezhno-Rybalska Street – from Electricians Street to the Havan Bridge.

These roads are switched to winter mode every year due to the shorter daylight, poorer visibility, and increase in accidents.

How traffic has changed in Dnipro

Dnipro City Council has also reduced speed – from 70 to 50 km/h. The new restrictions apply to most major city arteries, including Naberezhna Zavodska, Naberezhna Peremohy, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk highways, Sunny waterfront, and central bridges.

The police confirmed that the auto-fixation systems have already been readjusted. Cameras in Kyiv and Dnipro will now fine for speeding over 50 km/h.

Why these changes

According to the cities, the reduction of speed in the cold season is not a formality. The number of traffic accidents with pedestrians increases in autumn and winter. The difference between 50 and 80 km/h can be critical – both for the driver's reaction and for the chances of the victim to survive.

Urban services remind: adherence to the speed limit is primarily about safety, not just about avoiding fines.
