Lithuania Strengthens Control over Kaliningrad Transit: What Has Changed

Литва посилює нагляд за транзитом до Калінінградської області: які нововведення впроваджуються.

The Minister of the Interior of Lithuania, Vladislav Kondratovich, has signed an order implementing a new control procedure for citizens of the Russian Federation traveling in transit through Lithuania to Kaliningrad Oblast.

According to the ELTA agency, the State Border Guard, the Lithuanian police, and the Public Security Service will now jointly coordinate oversight of the transit and respond to possible incidents. The new control procedure will strengthen the exchange of information between agencies and conduct joint exercises to ensure coordinated actions.

«Any incident related to Kaliningrad transit will be a priority for the services' response. Our goal is to ensure prompt response to any violations or suspicious situations,» Kondratovich said.

It is also worth mentioning that Lithuania plans to change its border with Russia and Belarus following Poland's statements. In addition, Lithuania has already purchased and deployed anti-tank hedgehogs and «dragon's teeth» at its border with Russia and Belarus.

Warning about Possible Conflict with Russia

Earlier, information emerged that Russia could occupy Latvia and part of Lithuania within just 10 days. A new generation war center has developed a simulation of a possible Russian attack on NATO's eastern flank in 2027.

Changes in the control of Russian transit through Lithuania reflect the overall context of rising tensions in the region and increased anxiety about potential conflicts. The signing of the order reflects the importance of readiness for potential threats and increased security levels in the state.
