Luhansk region proclaimed state sovereignty as a result of the referendum on May 11.
“The people of Luhansk declare the establishment of a sovereign state, the Luhansk People's Republic,” the declaration states, which was read at a large rally on Monday in the center of Luhansk.
“In accordance with international law, based on equality and mutually beneficial cooperation, the territory of the Luhansk People's Republic within universally recognized administrative boundaries is indivisible and inviolable,” the declaration emphasizes.
“This act comes into effect upon its approval in the regional referendum,” the document states.
At the rally, it was reported that the voter turnout for the referendum on May 11 allegedly reached 75%, with 96.2% of voters supporting the independent status of the region.
It is worth noting that the Donetsk separatists declared themselves a sovereign state and applied to join the Russian Federation.
