Exhumation on the Hill of Glory in Lviv: state of work


The exhumation work on the Hill of Glory in Lviv is already 90% complete, but there are still two weeks of work to do. This information was published by the Lviv City Council, reports

This concerns four mass graves and more than 250 individual burials on the Hill. Among them are the graves of NKVD agents Nikolai Kuznetsov and Major Stepan Putin. These burials are being relocated last according to a separate protocol.



Research and relocation of remains


At the moment, 299 remains have already been exhumed. There are still two mass graves and several individual burials left. The research and exhumation work began on May 1. This work is being carried out by the Memorial Search Center 'Dolia' with the permission of the Ministry of Culture. The remains found and gravestones will be transferred to the Goloskovsky cemetery.



Further actions and plans


Previously, two entrance columns at the memorial have already been dismantled. The metal garlands from the columns and fences will be handed over to the 'Territory of Terror' museum, as well as the 'eternal flame' structure. A final decision regarding the further improvement of the memorial will be made after the completion of all exhumation work, geological studies, and consultations with the public.



During the exhumation work on the Hill of Glory in Lviv, more than 299 remains have already been identified, and research on two more mass graves and several burials continues. This complex and important work is being carried out by the Memorial Search Center 'Dolia' with the aim of establishing the identification of the deceased and their dignified reburial. After the exhumation process is completed, it is planned to restore the memorial in memory of the tragic events of the past.
