Lviv's Waste Processing Plant Dispute Escalates
The Lviv City Council has reached out to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk over the stalled construction of a waste processing facility. After consultations and approval from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the council officially ended its agreement with the Polish contractor Control Process S.A. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi stated that the decision was driven by the contractor's failure to meet its contractual obligations.
The local community has already paid over 30 million euros for work completed, yet the project remains unfinished. In August, city council deputies appealed to Poland's prime minister for assistance in moving the construction forward. “We are aware of attempts by certain Polish officials to send letters to Lviv’s partner cities in Poland, trying to involve them in lobbying for the Polish contractor. We also know about efforts to pressure the Ukrainian government into urging Lviv to continue working with a company that failed to fulfill its contract. And those rules must apply to everyone,” the mayor said.
