Maxim Galkin's Dublin Performance

Russian entertainer and comedian Maxim Galkin performed in the Ukrainian language during a concert in Dublin. The event, reported by the publication 'Glavcom', featured Galkin recounting a story sent to him via Instagram Reels by his Ukrainian language teacher and performing the song 'Tsey Son' by Ukrainian People's Artist Stepan Gigi.

Addressing the audience, Galkin noted that certain words, such as 'tonometer' and 'sedatives', proved challenging for him. However, his Ukrainian teacher believes he handles the language very well, commenting in a humorous tone:

“Mr. Maxim, this is already a crime against womankind, punishable by law. Women's blood pressure rises from gazing upon your seductive physique, which tempts with every cell of its sturdiness.”

This performance is not the first instance of Galkin participating in events with Ukrainian organizers since the onset of the full-scale war. He also greeted his Instagram followers for Christmas partly in Ukrainian. The audience reacted positively to his Dublin act, praising his linguistic skills with comments like:

  • “My God, his Ukrainian is so beautiful”
  • “What Ukrainian! It's simply music to the ears”
  • “Talented in everything, Maxim, thank you for supporting Ukraine”

Galkin jokingly remarked that after his performance, pharmacies might run short of tonometers and sedative pills if people kept waiting for a 'full version of a bare torso'. He clarified he had no intention of mocking the audience, and the concert's cheerful atmosphere underscored his desire to support Ukraine during difficult times. Galkin's actions are notable as he remains one of the few prominent Russian cultural figures to publicly express solidarity with Ukraine following the 2022 invasion.

Cultural Exchange and Support for Ukraine

Maxim Galkin's Dublin concert highlights his active stance in supporting Ukraine during the war, potentially signaling a shift in the perception of Ukrainian culture within some Russian circles. His engagement with Ukrainian audiences and use of the language in performances could become significant elements of cultural exchange and mutual understanding between peoples during this challenging period.
