Assistant Coaches Announced and Squad Revealed for Ukraine
Andrea Maldera, the head coach of Ukraine’s national football team, has officially introduced his assistant coaches: Volodymyr Yezerskyi, Taras Stepanenko, and Pasquale Catalano. The squad for the upcoming matches has also been released, featuring the return of veteran winger Andriy Yarmolenko and first-time call-ups for defender Romanchuk and winger Synchuk. Maldera signed a two-year contract with an option for extension, marking a new chapter for the team as they prepare for competitive fixtures.
Maldera’s Coaching Team

Volodymyr Yezerskyi, now serving as Maldera’s assistant, is a former defender for Dnipro and other clubs. He recently stepped down from his role with Ukraine’s youth national teams, where he worked as both an assistant and head coach for squads ranging from U-16 to U-21. Yezerskyi also gained experience as an assistant coach at club level with Dnipro, Oleksandriya, and Karpaty Lviv.

Taras Stepanenko, another assistant coach under Maldera, has returned to the Ukrainian Premier League after a stint with Turkish side Eyüpspor. He signed a six-month contract with Kolos Kovalivka and has already made four appearances for his new club. Stepanenko previously captained Shakhtar Donetsk during a successful period for the club.

Pasquale Catalano, Maldera’s fellow Italian, recently finished the season mid-table in Italy’s Serie D while managing Fidelis Andria. He took over that team in January, having previously coached clubs such as Pontedera, Imolese, Pianese, Parma’s youth side, Prato, and Termoli. Catalano has also served as an assistant to well-known managers like Alberto Aquilani and Roberto De Zerbi.
Ukraine’s national team will benefit from the return of Andriy Yarmolenko, a seasoned attacker, as well as the inclusion of two debutants—defender Romanchuk and winger Synchuk. Maldera remains committed to his role as head coach, aiming to elevate the team’s performance on the international stage.

Debutants Romanchuk and Synchuk are expected to bring fresh energy and new tactical ideas to the squad, which is crucial for boosting Ukraine’s competitiveness internationally. With Maldera’s two-year contract in place, his primary objective is to build a team capable of achieving its goals in the near future.
In light of Maldera's recent appointments, the national team is undergoing significant changes, reminiscent of the recent shift in coaching strategies, as seen with the addition of a Spanish staff to the Ukrainian squad. This move aims to enhance the team's competitive edge and reflects a broader trend of international collaboration in football.
