Malta lowers taxes for parents: who will receive benefits due to the demographic crisis

Мальта знижує податки для батьків: які сім'ї отримають фінансову підтримку в умовах демографічної нестабільності.

Malta has decided to support large families by lowering taxes for them to increase the birth rate in the country. Malta's Minister of Finance Clyde Caruana proposed new tax benefits as part of the budget for 2026, emphasizing the importance of this step in the face of a deep demographic crisis.

“We must encourage more families to have at least two children,” Caruana emphasized.

According to official data from Eurostat, Malta has the lowest birth rate in the European Union, which explains the need for measures to support families and stimulate birth rates. The new tax benefits will be in effect for several years for parents raising two or more children, helping them keep more money in the family budget for the development and care of their children.

Similar measures to support families and increase birth rates have also been implemented in other countries such as Poland, Greece, and South Korea, indicating a trend of this strategy worldwide in the context of demographic challenges.
