Over 1,200 Hoax Bomb Threats Flood Ukrainian Police in a Single Day

Протягом одного дня українські правоохоронці отримали понад тисячу хибних повідомлень про замінування.

Wave of Anonymous Bomb Threats Hits Ukraine

Ukrainian National Police are grappling with a massive wave of anonymous bomb threats targeting buildings across the country. Starting at 11:00 on March 30, a total of 1,216 reports had been received by 14:50 that same day. These anonymous messages were sent via email to a wide range of recipients, including government bodies, local authorities, educational institutions, businesses, banks, and other organizations.

Preliminary data indicates that law enforcement has processed roughly 20% of the received threats, with none of the bomb warnings being substantiated. This is not an isolated incident; similar mass mailings of false bomb threats have occurred before. For instance, on January 30, anonymous warnings were received in Kyiv and numerous regions, including:

  • Poltava
  • Lviv
  • Ivano-Frankivsk
  • Rivne
  • Vinnytsia
  • Ternopil
  • Volyn
  • Khmelnytskyi
  • Dnipropetrovsk
  • Kharkiv

Statistics on False Bomb Threats

In January 2025 alone, police recorded 697 false bomb threats targeting over 13,000 educational institutions, with the highest number of cases—80 incidents—occurring in the Kyiv region. For the full year of 2024, law enforcement received 4,435 hoax bomb threats concerning 61,216 educational establishments. A spike of 6,593 cases was recorded in January 2024, with the number of such incidents decreasing by 72.9% in the remaining months of the year. These hoaxes are a persistent tactic of psychological pressure and disruption in Ukraine.

The National Police urge citizens to remain calm, rely only on information from official sources, and comply with the instructions of law enforcement officers.

The surge in anonymous bomb threats raises serious security concerns and has the potential to sow panic among the public. Previous incidents demonstrate that such events have become frequent, suggesting the activity of organized groups behind these provocations. It is crucial for citizens to stay vigilant, avoid panic, and adhere to police guidance in such situations.
