Mass Expulsions of Students for Absences: Universities Check Enrollees of Draft Age

Mass Expulsions of Students in Ukraine

Mass expulsions of students for absences have begun in Ukraine, as reported by Nataliia Pipa, the secretary of the educational committee of the Verkhovna Rada. The new measure is related to checks on enrollees that educational institutions are conducting due to a significant influx of men of draft age. Expulsions may concern students who have missed classes one or two times.

Checks and New Requirements

It is planned that the checks will cover about 50 colleges and higher education institutions, including universities with the largest number of students aged 25 and older. In addition, for students in medical and pharmaceutical specialties, training of reserve officers will become a mandatory part of the education. Students undergoing basic general military training become part of the human reserve of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Upon reaching the age of 25, students may be called up based on health status and other criteria.

These measures are part of the efforts by the Ukrainian authorities to ensure national security during the war. Considering the military needs of the country, monitoring the presence of students in educational institutions becomes important for forming a reserve for the Armed Forces. Such innovations may cause concern among students, especially those studying in medical and pharmaceutical faculties, as mandatory military training changes the traditional learning process. In the context of war, these decisions emphasize the importance of readiness among youth for military service.
