Parts of Odesa Left in Darkness After Russia's Massive Strike on the Region

Внаслідок потужної атаки Росії, частини Одеси опинилися без електропостачання.

A Heavy Attack on the Odesa Region

In the early hours of August 9, Russian forces launched a major assault on the Odesa region, damaging energy facilities and knocking out power for a number of consumers in the city and surrounding areas. DTEK reported that this was one of the most significant attacks on the region this year. Residents in the Odesa district, including parts of the Prymorskyi, Khadzhibeyskyi, and Peresypksyi neighborhoods, lost electricity. Emergency teams are already working to restore supply, as the damage is considerable.

The assault involved both drones and ballistic missiles aimed at Odesa. Eight residents were injured in the strikes, with seven in moderate condition and most suffering from shrapnel wounds. In two districts, several residential buildings were damaged or partially destroyed, and vehicles belonging to local residents were burned or wrecked in the fires.

The damage is severe, and repairs will take time. Energy workers across the Odesa region are doing everything possible to restore power as soon as possible. — DTEK

Kharkiv Hit by a Missile Attack

On the morning of August 9, Russian forces also fired a missile at Kharkiv. One projectile struck a multi-story residential building in the Saltivskyi district, killing two men aged 50 and 66. The number of injured has grown to 23, with five currently hospitalized, including a woman in serious condition. The strike destroyed the ceiling structures between the seventh and tenth floors, making rescue and medical work much harder.

These events highlight the ongoing aggression by Russian troops and the severe consequences for civilians caught in the attacks.

The situation in the Odesa and Kharkiv regions demonstrates how relentless the fighting has become and how destructive it is for the civilian population. The strikes not only damage infrastructure but also put lives at risk, while rebuilding what has been destroyed will require significant resources and time, threatening the stability of the affected areas. This latest barrage is another reminder of the heavy price Ukrainian communities continue to pay amid the war.

The recent missile attack on Odesa is not an isolated incident. Just hours before, drones targeted multiple facilities in the region, causing significant damage to gas stations and energy infrastructure. This escalation in hostilities raises concerns about the ongoing impact on local communities.
