Two Young Boys Injured, Mother Killed in Kyiv Strike

Двоє молодих хлопців постраждали, їхня мати загинула внаслідок обстрілу в Києві.

Tragedy Strikes Kyiv

Veronika Chuyan, a 29-year-old mother, was killed on the night of June 2, 2026, during a Russian attack on Kyiv. She was rushing to a shelter with her two sons, aged five and nearly three, when a missile explosion claimed her life. Her sister, Anastasia Chuyan, confirmed the death, stating:

“This incredibly beautiful woman was named Veronika Chuyan. Yesterday, Russia killed her as she ran to cover with her two sons.”
According to the Telegram channel 'Kyiv Operative,' the boys remain unaware of their mother's death.

The attack involved a combination of missiles and drones, causing widespread destruction across the capital and other regions, including Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Poltava Oblast. One of the sons sustained severe injuries, while the other suffered minor wounds.

Children’s Condition and Attack Aftermath

Lawyer Anzhela Vasylevska provided details on the children’s condition. The younger son, Shtayvi Jacob (born in 2023), suffered serious injuries, including a blast injury, arm wounds, and shrapnel damage. He underwent surgery at the 'Okhmatdyt' medical facility. The older son, Shtayvi Jasim (born in 2021), sustained a bruise. The younger boy was taken by his aunt, while the older one will remain in the hospital for at least two weeks in the orthopedics department for a planned operation.

The massive combined strike hit eight districts of Kyiv, damaging residential buildings, five medical facilities, industrial sites, the Unit.City IT park, and the Unit.Home residential complex. The total death toll in Kyiv reached 7, with over 80 injured.

The attack also affected other regions, notably Dnipro, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Poltava Oblast, with the main focus on Kyiv, where numerous damages were recorded. A lawyer’s assistant at the scene held an injured child with a limb wound for two hours until a foreign military medic applied a bandage.

This tragedy highlights the devastating human toll of the ongoing armed conflict, which continues to claim civilian lives and inflict severe injuries on children. The explosions in Kyiv and other parts of Ukraine underscore the escalating crisis, emphasizing the urgent need for international action to protect civilians and ensure safety in the region.

The ongoing conflict continues to put innocent lives at risk, as seen in a recent incident where a mother and her three-year-old daughter were left in critical condition following a shelling in Kherson. This tragic event highlights the devastating impact of military actions on families, similar to the heartbreaking story of Veronika Chuyan and her sons in Kyiv.
