A Nurse with 230 Skeleton Tattoos Risks Losing Three Apartments to Have Them Removed

Медсестра з 230 татуюваннями скелетів стикається з ризиком втрати трьох квартир через їх видалення.

Oleh Karpa: Record-Breaking Tattoo Artist

At 28 years old, Oleh Karpa holds the record for the most tattoos depicting human skeletal anatomy. His body is covered with 230 such designs, which he estimates would take roughly 40 years to fully remove. The cost of that removal process is equivalent to the price of three apartments in Kyiv. Karpa has no plans to get new tattoos on his face; he already has one on his chin but, out of respect for his mother, does not intend to alter other areas of his face.

Professional Life and Advice

Karpa works as a nurse in forensic medical examination and also teaches thanatopractice courses—both online and in person. Thanatopractice involves preparing deceased bodies for burial. He says he has grown accustomed to his tattoos and no longer pays them much mind, though he occasionally notices strange reactions from people.

“I don’t pay attention to them at all anymore; I forget they’re there. Sometimes on the street, I notice people acting oddly toward me and wonder what’s wrong. Then I remember my tattoos,” he comments on his daily life.

Karpa also shares advice about tattoos. He believes people should not rush into getting them and recommends waiting until age 25:

  • Don’t hurry into getting tattoos.
  • Understand that it is not a cheap process.
  • A quality tattoo cannot come at a low price.

Karpa has surpassed the achievement of the famous Zombie Boy, becoming a striking example for many tattoo culture enthusiasts.

Karpa’s record highlights the growing popularity of tattoos as a form of self-expression. His story may encourage young people to reflect on the meaning of tattoos and their long-term consequences, considering the financial costs and social stereotypes that can arise from such decisions. Karpa also demonstrates how tattoos can become part of a professional identity, potentially shifting society’s perception of healthcare workers.

Karpa's remarkable journey in the tattoo world parallels that of another notable figure in the field.
