Meta Unveils Its New Forum Application
On May 22, 2026, Meta introduced a new app called Forum, designed to operate similarly to the Reddit platform. Integrated with Facebook, the app lets users join discussions using their existing Facebook accounts. Social media consultant Matt Navarra was the first to spot the application. Forum allows users to post under pseudonyms, which could encourage broader participation in conversations.
All content published in Forum is synchronized and remains visible within Facebook communities. Additionally, the app features an Ask tab that leverages artificial intelligence to instantly search for answers across all groups. Forum also includes a dedicated AI assistant for moderators, aimed at simplifying community management. According to Meta’s developers, Forum is built to offer
“a space built for deeper discussions, real answers, and communities you care about”.
Meta’s Growth and Future Plans
This release marks Meta’s second in the past month, following the launch of Instants, a photo-sharing app. The Wall Street Journal reports that Meta’s leadership plans to roll out a wave of new applications. Notably, the company’s previous attempt to create a standalone community platform lasted from 2014 to 2017.
- The concept for Instants drew inspiration from popular platforms like BeReal and Snapchat.
- Last year’s Meta Edits editor replicates functionality found in ByteDance’s CapCut.
The development of new apps like Forum underscores Meta’s drive to adapt to evolving user needs in social media and communication. Integration with Facebook and the use of artificial intelligence could enhance convenience and user engagement, which is critical in a competitive landscape. This also opens up fresh monetization opportunities, increasingly vital for a company aiming to maintain its foothold in the social networking market.
