Metallica's M72 World Tour Performance

On May 30, during the M72 World Tour, Metallica frontman James Hetfield introduced a woman named Maryna from Ukraine, who uses a wheelchair, to the stage. The concert took place at a stadium with nearly 95,000 attendees. Hetfield offered words of encouragement, stating:

“I want to introduce someone truly special we met before the show. She came from Ukraine... Maryna, we love you, and it was a pleasure talking with you.”

Ongoing Support for Ukraine

Since the war began, Metallica has repeatedly stood with Ukraine through charitable donations, auctions, and public outreach. In April 2022, the band joined the #ChefsForUkraine campaign organized by World Central Kitchen. Metallica contributed an initial $500,000, which helped raise a total of $1 million through the initiative. The band also participated in the #StandUpForUkraine movement.

In May, James Hetfield personally met with wounded Ukrainian soldiers undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in the United States. Hetfield and guitarist Kirk Hammett took part in charity auctions where they sold their own guitars. In 2024, the musicians highlighted Ukrainian soldier and musician Taras Stolyar, who performed the song "Nothing Else Matters" on the bandura. Metallica shared a video of Taras Stolyar’s performance on their Instagram page, which had over 12 million followers. Taras Stolyar serves in the Territorial Defense Forces.

It is worth noting that Metallica’s only concert in Kyiv took place on June 27, 1999, at the NSC Olimpiyskiy as part of the Rock Kyiv festival. The band continues to support Ukraine, actively drawing attention to the challenges the country faces.

Metallica’s performance during the world tour and their support for Ukrainian citizens, including Maryna, highlight the importance of international solidarity in difficult times. The band not only uses its popularity to bring attention to Ukraine’s struggles but also provides direct assistance through charitable efforts, demonstrating a long-term commitment to the cause.

In a remarkable display of connection, Metallica's recent performance not only uplifted Maryna but also resonated on a global scale. This event echoes their previous concert in Athens, where the band's powerful presence even triggered a seismic event, showcasing their impact beyond music.
