Patch Resolves CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal File Size Issue in Windows 11
On July 2 at 7:00 PM, Microsoft announced a fix for a Windows 11 bug that caused the CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal file to balloon to tens of gigabytes, consuming users' disk space. The problem stemmed from the Capability Access Manager background process, which manages app permissions for accessing the camera, microphone, and other features.
On some PCs, the file size reached 60–100 GB, with one Reddit user reporting an astonishing 200 GB. This issue hit hardest for those with 256 GB or smaller SSDs, where limited storage made normal system use difficult. Microsoft has rolled out the fix in optional update KB5095093, which is currently in testing.
“This update improves disk space usage for the CapabilityAccessManager.db-wal file”
With this patch, Windows 11 users can expect better performance and reduced memory consumption.
Fixing this bug marks an important step for Microsoft in improving the Windows 11 user experience, especially for those constrained by limited disk space. As reliance on digital technology grows, resolving such issues helps maintain system stability and productivity, which in turn bolsters the company's overall reputation. Users who faced difficulties due to this problem can now breathe easier, alleviating concerns about their device storage capacity.
