Mika Newton Shares Her Journey Through Cancer and Motherhood Struggles

Singer Mika Newton has revealed deeply personal details about battling ovarian cancer at age 35, difficulties with conception, a failed IVF attempt, and a miscarriage. She also expressed plans to adopt a child. After undergoing surgery for ovarian cancer, which left her with only one ovary, she decided to pursue in vitro fertilization (IVF) but suffered a miscarriage.

The singer recounted that on the day of her surgery, her Labrador, Mozart, was also fighting cancer, and it was then that she began to miscarry.

“It was the hardest part. You go to the doctor to become a mother, and instead of a baby, they give you cancer. I was so terrified that I would never become a mother,” Mika Newton said.
She also shared that she spent over $30,000 on several IVF attempts.

Describing the emotions tied to the miscarriage, she said:

“Everything was developing normally, but then the heartbeat never came. And they told me, ‘Well, expect a miscarriage.’”
She noted the painful process: “It wasn’t just a normal miscarriage—it felt like giving birth. I’ve never felt such pain, not even after that major surgery. It was horrible. There was heavy bleeding.”

Mika Newton also admitted to feeling envy when seeing other women become pregnant: “I open Instagram, and everyone is pregnant or has just given birth. For the first time, I thought: she has it, and I don’t—I lost mine. I felt anger.” Although she believes she could carry a child to term, she emphasized that the quality of her eggs has been severely depleted due to surgeries and IVF, as she now has only one ovary.

Her husband, Chris Saavedra, has been a pillar of support during this difficult time. “I’m lucky that my husband loves me deeply and says, ‘I’d rather be childless than lose you, but I want to see you and myself in our child,’” she said. The singer also mentioned her desire to adopt a child in Ukraine, knowing many children there have lost their parents. “Of course, I’d like to do it in Ukraine. I know many children are left alone. That would be a great reward for us,” she added.

Mika Newton’s story highlights not only the personal trials women face when battling cancer and its aftermath but also the critical role of support from loved ones during such challenging times. Adoption of children who have lost their parents can serve not only as a path to building a family but also as a positive contribution to society, especially amid the current social challenges in Ukraine.
