MP Mykola Tyshchenko Joins 'Ukraine's Restoration' Group

Member of Parliament Mykola Tyshchenko has joined the parliamentary group 'Ukraine's Restoration.' The announcement was made by First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Oleksandr Korniienko. This group, which now has 17 members, was originally formed on May 22, 2022. Parliamentary groups in Ukraine often form around specific policy goals or as alliances for MPs without a party faction.

The 'Ukraine's Restoration' group is co-chaired by MPs Ihor Abramovych and Maksym Yefimov. Tyshchenko was expelled from the ruling 'Servant of the People' faction in 2023. Alongside Tyshchenko, the group includes 16 other deputies, several of whom were also originally elected from the 'Servant of the People' party.

Criminal Case and Political Career

It is notable that Mykola Tyshchenko is a suspect in a criminal case concerning the alleged unlawful detention of former soldier Dmytro Mazokha. Other deputies originally elected from 'Servant of the People' who are now members of the 'Ukraine's Restoration' group include:

  • Oleh Voronok
  • Anatolii Hunko
  • Artem Dmytruk
  • Roman Ivanisov
  • Yevhenii Shevchenko
  • Oleksandr Yurchenko

Tyshchenko's move to the 'Ukraine's Restoration' group suggests an effort to continue his political career in a new format following his expulsion. The group's stated aim is to unite deputies to facilitate the country's recovery, a pressing goal amid the ongoing war and economic challenges. Given the ongoing criminal proceedings against him, Tyshchenko's future political influence and role in the parliament are likely to be closely monitored by the public and media.
