Dutch Foreign Minister's Visit to Kyiv

During a visit to Kyiv, Dutch Foreign Minister Tom Berendsen held meetings with the leadership of Ukraine's National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO). Discussions focused on strengthening the independence of these anti-corruption bodies and aligning their development with international standards. Berendsen reaffirmed the Netherlands' support for Ukraine's efforts to enhance the institutional capacity of its anti-corruption agencies. This visit underscores the continued international focus on Ukraine's governance reforms, which are critical for its future stability and European aspirations.

Discussion on the Timur Mindich Case

A significant topic of discussion was the case of businessman Timur Mindich, a person of interest in the Midas case. Mindich has expressed his willingness to travel to Ukraine and stated he is prepared for imprisonment, provided the court sets a fair bail amount. He also indicated a desire to testify before a temporary investigative commission and is ready to give evidence in court via an online format.

In a separate development, NABU complied with a ruling from the Appeals Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court by returning funds seized during a search to Yulia Tymoshenko. Highlighting their ongoing work, SAPO representatives stated:

“NABU and SAPO continue their systematic work to detect, investigate, and document corruption crimes, as well as to develop cooperation with international partners.”

This visit by the Dutch Foreign Minister confirms the international community's support for Ukraine's fight against corruption, a key condition for the country's European integration. Strengthening these anti-corruption institutions in line with international norms is a vital step for reinforcing democracy and the rule of law in Ukraine, as well as for boosting investor confidence. The developments in the Timur Mindich case and the return of funds to Yulia Tymoshenko illustrate the active role of NABU and SAPO in investigating corruption and their accountability to both society and international partners.
