Frontline Blood Transfusion Protocol

A battlefield blood transfusion system implemented before evacuation to hospitals has significantly improved survival rates for wounded personnel in Ukraine. Developed from the direct experience of combat medics, this protocol has proven effective. However, a review conducted by one army corps uncovered several issues, including misalignment between civilian and military regulations and inaccurate record-keeping.

Digitizing Hemovigilance

In response to these challenges, the Ministry of Defense is developing systemic solutions for the entire armed forces. A central focus is the digitization of hemovigilance. Specifically, officials plan to electronically track every blood unit from the point of collection to its transfusion into a wounded soldier. The goal is to improve management and oversight of blood transfusion procedures on the front lines.

Implementing these initiatives could dramatically enhance the effectiveness of military medical support, especially in critical situations where speed and accuracy are vital. The adoption of electronic systems will not only address current shortcomings but also ensure better integration between civilian and military medical facilities, ultimately reducing risks for the injured.
