Negotiations to End the War
Talks aimed at ending the war continue between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States. Ukraine is anticipating concrete outcomes from its partners and is preparing for further meetings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated he maintains constant contact with the American side. Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council Secretary, Rustem Umerov, briefed the president on the day's progress, and Ukraine hopes to hold meetings as early as next week.
The State of Negotiations
However, the Kremlin believes there is little chance for a breakthrough in peace talks with Ukraine, citing the position of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The first trilateral negotiations, involving delegations from Ukraine, Russia, and the U.S., concluded in the capital of the United Arab Emirates on January 24. These talks lasted two days and marked the first such high-level format in a long time, featuring diplomats and military leaders from all three nations.
The discussions focused on potential parameters for ending the war. Separately, Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, met with Kremlin representative Kirill Dmitriev in Miami on January 31. Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed the critical need for tangible results and the continuation of meetings, stating:
