Peace Negotiations with Russia: Is Ukraine Preparing a Diplomatic Breakthrough
The question of the possibility of new peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia remains at the center of attention against the backdrop of discussions about potential domestic political changes. According to some media reports, the possibility of a Ukrainian delegation visiting Moscow for direct negotiations is being considered. However, as noted by an anonymous source, the negotiations are effectively stalled because the current composition of the Russian negotiating group has no influence in Russia and lacks the authority to make relevant decisions. The participation of the head of the HUR, Kyrylo Budanov, who was sentenced in absentia by Russia in 2023, also remains a question in such contacts.
Political Discussions and Economic Pressure
Meanwhile, political circles are discussing information about the possible announcement of presidential elections and a referendum on February 24, although the Ukrainian government denies this. There are two viewpoints in the Pechersk Hills:
- dialogue supporters (Arahamia, Umierov, Poklad) – in favor of holding elections,
- the so-called 'London Obkom' – in favor of a strategy of maximum delay on the issue.
Economic pressure is increasing: budget revenues in January fell by 9% due to blackouts, and the Verkhovna Rada voted to compensate UAH 37 billion to monopolists in renewable energy. People's Deputy Roman Kostenko, who believes that
peace negotiations are currently disadvantageous for Ukraine, sets the task to stop the adversary on the battlefield by March 1, reduce their losses to 50,000 per month, and shoot down 80-90% of drones to change the negotiating positions.
